New Order-This time of night

Picture
A track from the 1985 album by New Order. Still sounds quite good even 24 years later. Probably from one of those albums that really affected me at the time. Lowlife was such a brilliant album from construction, the music and the graphic design on Peter Saville.

Cocteau Twins-Love Easy tears

Picture
This came out in 1986 , Robin Guthrie created a wall of sound with this song. This was one of their truly great singles from the 80s.

The Who-Pinball Wizard(live Isle of Wight 1970)

Picture
I was going to post Óverture 'from the same concert. For me the power of the who from this concert is amazing, the genuis of pete Townshend song composition and guitar playing is just breathtaking. This was one of their biggest hits from the early 70s.

Orbital-Lush 3,2 reworked

Picture
This is a track of the 1993 album by orbital, sort of a stripped down version of one of their singles. Quite a powerful little track in its own right

Clan Of Xymox.- Gothic forgotten sons?

Picture
Xymox are one of those bands that sort of slipped through the net, but with hindsight and reviewing their back catalogue there are many hidden gems. Xymox are from holland and were originally on 4AD records and then signed to the cure/banshees label called Polydor. For me some of their best work was from this period. This is the single called Blind Hearts that came out in 1989.

Pink Floyd-dark side of the moon...

If there was any album I would have to pick for a desert island it would be the Pink Floyd album 'Dark side of the moon' . A truly classic album, what makes it so special is in its structure and production. I had a break of many years friom music, but that one album got me intrested again. I read somewhere that Roger Waters considered most of the lyrics naive, but to me the lyrics are right up there with his best work. The lyrics were quite optomistic on the album, unlike albums such as 'animals' and 'the wall'.
I have picked 'any colour you like' as its a instrumental and never gets mentioned in album reviews.

Soulseek - Not a dating service. File sharing

In  the past when Ive spoke to people about what they use to download on I always get responses like use 'Limewire'. Now for me limewire is fast to download but uses java which can sometimes slow down your system as you are trying to do other things. I feel what people use limewire for is the design. Soulseek is a different program which is minimal in design, but it makes up in speed. Soulseek enables people to share folders on their machine and then download from others. It also contains other elements like chat rooms and other extras.
Once installed it will ask you to open the folder, it then asks you to create a user name and password. Once this is done , it wont ask you again. It then comes up with  a main screen(as picture). Click on search files and enter an artist. Wait about 10 seconds and it throws a list of grey writing in your face. This is a listing of all the albums that people have online.
Where as limewire would download of loads of people, soulseek is a one to one downloading tool. So if you want to exchange with someone you know, it is really easy. Last thing I would say is set the download kps column to '0' , so it will download fast.

Soulseek is in some respects a downloading program , but it is a recird company to. Where I think Soulseek is better than the rest is that it contains alot of rare material.

TANGERINE DREAM - BLUE SPEARS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A compilation of all those industrial bands that were around in one form or another from the 70s to the 90s. The newest band on the compilation are VNV nation. After completing this one Im remembering other bands like Die krupps, Nitzer Ebb, Neon Judgement, maybe thats another compilation. Skinny Puppy's addiction is a remix done by KDFMN, N.Emissions is a song I found on a really obscure tape that i brough in london.
There was quite a sense of collabartion between these artists, apart from Tangerine Dream its probably possible to draw one of those rock family trees. There were many songs I could have included but some havnt aged well, I consider these to be the best tracks that have stood the test of time.
